President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to address the African Climate Summit's third plenary session, titled "Charting a Vision: Investment Opportunities for Green Growth," today, September 5, at 11 a.m. However, it remains uncertain who will represent the president as he is currently attending the G-20 Summit in India.

Today's session will commence with the presidential opening, attended by numerous African Heads of State and Governments. Security measures have been tightened as delegates, ministers, and presidents have converged at the venue.

Tinubu will share the stage with Kenya's President, William Ruto; Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed; Senegal's President, Macky Sall, and a youth representative from Togo, Bawoupati Batassa. The session will be moderated by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General and the Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy for All, Damilola Ogunbiyi.

Yesterday, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, hosted various activities, including the ministerial opening attended by ministers and delegates from around the world.

The event marked the inaugural African Climate Change Summit, hosted and chaired by Ruto. In a bid to position Nigeria in the carbon market, former Vice President and Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet's global advisor, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, emphasized the need to end pollution and gas flaring. Osinbajo also served as the moderator for the carbon markets session at the summit and noted Nigeria's efforts to decommission diesel-powered generators in large open markets.

Responding to a question about the environmental impact of burning seized stolen oil vessels by the military, despite the Climate Change Act and Nigeria's nationally determined contribution, Osinbajo stressed the urgency of ending gas flaring. He highlighted the potential for monetizing carbon credits through the activation of Nigeria's carbon market.
