COURT JOINS PROPOSE NATIONWIDE LABOUR STRIKE CLOSES COURT

In response to the economic hardships caused by the sudden removal of fuel subsidies by the Nigerian government, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has called for a nationwide court closure on Tuesday and Wednesday. This move is in solidarity with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has instructed its members to close all courts nationwide on Tuesday and Wednesday. This action aligns with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC)'s decision to hold a two-day warning strike protesting the economic hardships faced by Nigerians due to the abrupt removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government.

In a memo signed by its National Secretary, L. M. Adetola, JUSUN directed its officials, including Deputy Presidents, Zonal Vice Presidents, Branch Chairmen, and Secretaries, to ensure a complete shutdown of all courts on the specified days. This strike aims to protest the subsidy removal without adequate measures to mitigate its impact on the populace.

The NLC, in a communique, announced a nationwide two-day warning strike from September 5 to September 6, with a looming threat of an indefinite nationwide strike within 14 or 21 working days unless the government addresses the suffering of Nigerians.

Notably, the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) scheduled a judgment day for Wednesday regarding three petitions aiming to remove President Bola Tinubu from office. As a result, the court issued an internal memo dated September 4, directing its staff members to stay home on the judgment day to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the PEPC proceedings. Stringent security measures have been put in place, and only staff with authorized tags will be allowed entry.

To sum up, JUSUN is supporting the NLC and TUC's strike to protest fuel subsidy removal, impacting court operations, including the PEPC's scheduled judgment, which prompted security measures and staff instructions.
