APC ACCUSES OPPOSITION OF ORCHESTRATING PROTESTS, PDP DENIES ALLEGATIONS AND CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the leading opposition parties in Nigeria of orchestrating recent demonstrations in Kano and Niger states.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the leading opposition parties in Nigeria of orchestrating the recent demonstrations in Kano and Niger states. The protests, which occurred simultaneously, were met with denial from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which stated that they were a reflection of the hardship caused by the economic policies of the ruling party.

The demonstrations, which took place in Minna and Kano, saw angry youths and women protesting against the hardship, inflation, and rising cost of living in the country. In Niger, a group of women reportedly blocked the Minna-Bida Road at the popular Kpakungu Roundabout, calling on the administration to address the problem of hunger in the land.

The APC, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in Abuja, accused the opposition parties of being behind the protests, claiming that they were not mere coincidence but a desperate move to portray the APC-led administration as underperforming. The party urged citizens to be vigilant and not lend themselves to what it described as the opposition's attempt to promote social strife through incendiary rhetoric and manipulative plots.

In response, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, mocked the ruling party, stating that governance comes with consequences and that the nation was under siege due to the rising cost of living, insecurity, and the free fall of the naira. He emphasized the need for the opposition to hold the government accountable and not remain silent in the face of the country's challenges.

Abdullahi expressed concern about the state of the economy, rising unemployment, and insecurity, highlighting the burden borne by Nigerians. He questioned the expectation for the opposition to keep quiet at a time when they should be holding the government accountable for the current situation.
