IRAN'S OLDEST WOMAN DIES AT 125, SURPASSING WORLD'S OLDEST PERSON EVER

At 125 years old, she surpassed the age of Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who is officially recognized as the world's oldest person ever, having died in 1997 at the age of 122.

Local media reported on Tuesday that Masoumeh Sanei Toroghi, believed to be Iran's oldest woman, has passed away at the remarkable age of 125. Born on September 23, 1898, in the northeastern city of Mashhad, her longevity was confirmed by state TV, which published a photo of her identity card.

 

At 125 years old, she surpassed the age of Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who is officially recognized as the world's oldest person ever, having died in 1997 at the age of 122. Iran began registering family records in 1918, 20 years after Toroghi was presumed to have been born.

 

In 2020, local media reported the passing of an Iranian Kurd whose age, according to his identity documents, was 138. According to Guinness World Records, the current title holder for the world's oldest person is Spaniard Maria Branyas Morera, who is set to celebrate her 117th birthday on March 4.
