YOUTHS FORUM CRITICIZES ELDERS' CALL TO TINUBU, COMMENDS DEFENSE MINISTER'S EFFORTS

Northwest Youths Progressives Forum recently voiced their disapproval of the Katsina State Elders Forum's call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse his administration's decisions or risk losing the North's support in the 2027 general election.

The Northwest Youths Progressives Forum has criticized the Katsina State Elders Forum for urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse his administration's decisions or risk losing the North's support in the 2027 general election. The group, led by Alhaji Murtala Aliyu Ka'oje, the group coordinator, expressed their disapproval during a press briefing in Sokoto on Sunday. They argued that the Katsina Elders have no moral standing to challenge decisions made by the current administration, having failed to challenge their kinsman, former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration's actions in the past.

Ka'oje recalled that despite the adverse effects of the previous government's policies on the North, no northern elder from Katsina spoke out against those decisions. He questioned why the Katsina Elders had not criticized the former President's leadership, which resulted in poverty, insecurity, and political intimidation in the region. Ka'oje also questioned why President Tinubu, a Yoruba from the Southwest, was being targeted for the actions of his predecessor.

The group downplayed the political threat issued against President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing that the administration had only been in power for less than a year. They suggested that the Katsina Elders should advise the President to convene a national summit on security, economic development, and political stability instead of making biased statements against the government.

The forum expressed support for the Minister of State on Defense, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, and commended his proactive measures in supporting military operations in the Northwest region. They praised his commitment to fighting insecurity and urged President Tinubu to continue working towards national unity and political stability in Nigeria.
