A tragic incident unfolded at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, as a 100-level police cadet, A.S. Jika, passed away on a Saturday. The cause of his untimely death was attributed to his prolonged suffering from starvation and malnourishment for more than two weeks.

Several cadets raised serious allegations against the Commandant, Assistant Inspector-General Sadiq Abubakar, accusing him of high-handedness and financial mismanagement concerning the feeding allowances allocated for the students.

The deceased, A.S. Jika, a student in the Department of Computer Science hailing from Adamawa State, collapsed in the early hours of Saturday, specifically within the academy's restroom. Despite the urgency of the situation, a cadet who wished to remain anonymous revealed that Jika was rushed to the academy's clinic but remained untreated due to a lack of essential medications and the absence of a medical officer. Tragically, he eventually succumbed to his condition.

Another cadet, who also chose to withhold their identity, lamented the substandard conditions of the clinic and the frequent influx of sickly cadets seeking medical attention. They emphasized that since the new commandant took office, the cadets had been subjected to inadequate and poor-quality food. The tragic death of the young cadet, not yet 20 years old, could potentially have been prevented with proper medical care.

Furthermore, the commandant's decisions regarding the closure of the market and laundry facilities and the imposition of strenuous training exercises during lecture hours have raised concerns among the cadets. It was revealed that cadets regularly collapse during training due to exhaustion, often attributed to starvation and malnutrition. They also noted that the commandant's strict approach has led to dismissals of cadets who fell ill, creating fear among the students who strive to avoid expulsion.

Meanwhile, staff members at the academy expressed their grievances regarding the monthly feeding allowance. It was alleged that a portion of these funds routinely finds its way into the pockets of certain high-ranking officials, diverting resources meant for the cadets.

Despite attempts to seek clarification, the Commandant, AIG Abubakar, remained unresponsive to phone calls and text messages.
