The Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has appointed Mr. Olaide Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, as the deputy governor of the state. This decision was made shortly after the governor dismissed all the commissioners and special advisers on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, the name of the new deputy governor has been forwarded to the state House of Assembly for approval. The statement indicated that the House of Assembly would announce his nomination later in the day.

Adelami, who retired as Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly in April 2018, hails from Owo, Owo Local Government Area, the same LGA as the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. He was an APC governorship aspirant in 2020 but withdrew in favor of the late Akeredolu.

In a 2020 interview with The PUNCH, Adelami expressed that he had not initially planned to enter politics. However, his involvement in coordinating Ondo State for the Presidential Support Committee of the All Progressives Congress led to his exposure to field politics and a realization of the needs of the people across the state.

Additionally, the governor relieved all Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants of their duties, with immediate effect. The affected officials were instructed to hand over all government properties in their possession to the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices. The governor expressed gratitude to the affected officials for their services and contributions to the state's development.

Mr. Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the substantive governor of the state on December 27, 2023, following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who died at the age of 67 while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer in a German hospital.
