NIGERIA'S BEACH VOLLEYBALL TEAMS QUALIFY FOR AFRICAN GAMES: COACH'S OPTIMISM FOR MEDAL SUCCESS

Nigeria's men's and women's beach volleyball teams have recently secured qualification for the 13th African Games in Ghana, a significant achievement that reflects the dedication and skill of the players.

Nigeria's men's and women's beach volleyball teams have secured qualification for the 13th African Games in Ghana, scheduled to take place from March 8 to 23 in Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. The women's team, represented by Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa, achieved a flawless winning record, triumphing over Burkina Faso, Benin Republic, and Cote d'Ivoire with 2-0 victories in each match.

 

Meanwhile, the men's team, comprising Hilary Simon and Obayemi Ogunshina, secured three wins against Burkina Faso and Togo, with a 2-0 and 2-1 victory, respectively. They also overcame Cote d'Ivoire with a 2-1 win but suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic.

 

Kayode Ajilore, the coach of the Nigeria women's team, lauded the players' resilient spirit and their successful qualification for the African Games. He expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, under the leadership of Musa Nimrod, for their support in nurturing the aspirations of the young athletes.

 

Ajilore emphasized the team's determination and their ability to secure a place in Zone III, highlighting the need for thorough preparations to ensure a strong performance at the upcoming games. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation in realizing the players' aspirations and expressed optimism about their potential to excel with adequate preparations.

 

Looking ahead, Ajilore outlined plans for the players to enter a closed camp immediately to address any observed shortcomings during the qualifiers. He stressed the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for focused training to rectify weaknesses and maximize the team's chances of clinching a medal for Nigeria at the African Games. Ajilore's unwavering belief in the players' capabilities and his hope for a successful medal-winning campaign reflected his confidence in the team's potential to make a significant impact on the international stage.
