A new book released in Abuja on Tuesday, titled "Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023)," written by Femi Adesina, has revealed a harrowing incident involving President Muhammadu Buhari. The book recounts an event in November 2015, six months after Buhari assumed office as Nigeria's president, when his plane nearly crashed while en route to the Island of Malta for a meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government. The plane encountered severe turbulence, prompting a deeply terrified President Buhari to question the pilot upon landing, "What kind of landing is this?" The pilot, in turn, apologized to the President and the other distressed passengers.

The report detailed the frightening experience, describing how the presidential jet was buffeted by severe turbulence and wind shear, causing it to sway dangerously and nearly turn over upon touching down. The pilot explained to Buhari that they had just experienced wind shear, a sudden change in the direction of the wind, and apologized for the scare. This incident is featured in Chapter 21 of the book, titled "Over 50 foreign trips… and a health scare," which also lists the 94 countries officially visited by Buhari during his eight-year tenure, with the highest number of trips occurring in 2016, 2022, 2015, and 2018.

The book further reveals that Buhari made 10 trips in 2019, five each in 2021 and 2023, and the least number of two trips in 2020 before retiring to Daura, his hometown in Katsina, on May 29, 2023.
