ACTIVIST DECRIES INSECURITY IN ABUJA AND CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY

Human Rights Activist and Convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, has criticized the Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesome Wike, attributing the surge in insecurity, including kidnappings, maimings, and killings in Abuja, to the demolition of shanties and homes of the less privileged.

Human Rights Activist and Convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, has criticized the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr. Nyesome Wike, attributing the surge in insecurity, including kidnappings, maimings, and killings in Abuja, to the demolition of shanties and homes of the less privileged.

Adeyanju called upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene and hold Wike accountable for the security challenges facing the FCT. In a press statement, he expressed deep concern and outrage over the increasing cases of kidnappings and killings in the Federal Capital Territory, emphasizing that the safety and security of citizens should be a top priority for any responsible government.

The activist accused the FCT Minister of neglecting his duty and engaging in political activities in his home state of Rivers, rather than addressing the pressing security issues in Abuja. He highlighted the displacement of individuals and the destruction of shanties as contributing factors to the current state of insecurity in the FCT, stating that the Minister's actions have exacerbated the desperation and criminal activities in the city.

Adeyanju emphasized the plight of the poor, who, neglected and marginalized, have turned to criminal acts for survival. He urged the President to address the security situation in Abuja decisively and ensure the safety and well-being of its inhabitants. Additionally, he called upon the security agencies to enhance their intelligence-gathering capabilities and intensify efforts to make the city safe for all residents.

The activist warned that if the concerns raised are not promptly addressed, concerned Nigerians would resort to peaceful protests to demand justice and security for all. He stressed the urgency for the FCT Minister to fulfill his duty and for the security agencies to demonstrate their commitment to protecting the lives and dignity of the people, emphasizing that the residents of Abuja deserve a safe and secure environment in which to live and thrive.
