Ooni of Ife's Ex-Wife Naomi Silekunola Arrested Amid Stampede Tragedy

Queen Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, was an essential organizer of a tragic children's festive party where a stampede led to the deaths of 35 children in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has conveyed its condolences to the families of the victims affected by the stampede at the children's Christmas party held at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

It was reported on Wednesday that the incident took place during a children's festive party, where Agidigbo 88.7 FM, owned by Oriyomi Hamzat, had actively promoted the event in the days leading up to the devastating incident.

 

State Governor, Seyi Makinde, confirmed the arrest of the party's organizers and pledged to ensure that the culprits face the consequences of their actions for the tragedy they caused. The police have also confirmed the arrest of Naomi Silekunola and seven others involved in the organizing of the event.

 

The prominent monarch, in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Moses Olafare, expressed his sympathy to the families of the children whose lives were lost at the funfair. He wrote: "We share in the grief and pains that have engulfed the affected families. We pray that Olodumare grants them the fortitude to bear this trying time."

 

During her time as a queen at the Ile Oodua, Miss Naomi Silekuola Ogunseyi demonstrated love and care for the children of Ile-Ife through similar events, which she passionately executed to provide relief to children of indigent parents every December.

 

The House of Oduduwa pledges to support all efforts aimed at bringing solace and healing to those affected by this devastating loss. They call for immediate actions to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future, emphasizing the need for rigorous adherence to safety standards and child welfare regulations.
