FATAL STABBING LINKED TO RIVAL CULT CONFLICT IN MAKURDI TOWN

Tragic events unfolded in the Bush Bar area of Makurdi town, as a man known as 'Eko' allegedly committed a heinous act, resulting in the deaths of a 65-year-old retired nurse, Mrs. Esther Amali, and her 20-year-old maid, Mercy Mwuese.

A man known as 'Eko' allegedly stabbed a 65-year-old retired nurse, Mrs. Esther Amali, and her 20-year-old maid, Mercy Mwuese, to death at their home in the Bush Bar area of Makurdi town. The suspect and the victims lived in the same neighborhood. According to an eyewitness, the attack was linked to an ongoing violent rivalry between cult groups in the area.

The eyewitness revealed that the maid was romantically involved with a member of a rival cult, with whom she had a three-month-old child. This relationship angered the suspect, who belonged to another rival gang. He frequently quarreled with the maid over her association with his enemy, whom he accused of involvement in the killing of his gang members.

Before the tragic incident, the retired nurse had attempted to resolve the conflict between the suspect and the maid, as the suspect had been harassing and mistreating the maid. On the day of the attack, the suspect reportedly scaled the fence of the victims' home and assaulted the maid with a knife while she was washing clothes. Despite her cries for help, the suspect stabbed her multiple times. When Mrs. Amali rushed to the scene, she was also attacked and stabbed by the suspect before he fled, leaving them in a pool of blood.

Although Mrs. Amali managed to call for help, no one was nearby to assist them. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, but they had lost too much blood and succumbed to their injuries before reaching medical attention. The suspect, who had been living with his parents in the neighborhood, fled after the incident. The community members and family of the victims promptly reported the matter to the 'D Division' Police Station.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene, were unsuccessful.
