Nigerians on social media have initiated a fundraising campaign to raise ransom for the release of a woman known as Nabeeha and her five sisters, who were abducted from their home in Abuja on January 2, 2024. The abduction, which resulted in the death of their uncle, was first reported by a user named Adamu_Asiya_ on January 3, 2024. She appealed for prayers and support, stating that a ransom of N60 million had been demanded for the release of the sisters.

Tragically, two days later, it was announced that Nabeeha had been killed by the kidnappers after the ransom deadline was not met, and the ransom demand was increased to N100 million. This news sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for immediate action from the police and the Nigerian government to secure the release of the remaining sisters.

Former media aide to Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.), Bashir Ahmad, and other social media users urged the Nigerian Police to prioritize the case and allocate necessary resources for the safe rescue of the remaining victims. There were also calls for solidarity and action from the public, with many expressing concern over the pervasive insecurity in the country and the apparent lack of effective response from the authorities.

In response to public outcry, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, assured that the police and other security agencies were actively involved in the matter, urging the public to seek information from official sources rather than making unfounded allegations. He also encouraged the family of the victims to cooperate with the police to facilitate the rescue efforts.
