BORNO STATE GOVERNOR SIGNS 2024 APPROPRIATION BILL WITH ADJUSTED BUDGET SIZE

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, recently signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill, which underwent an adjustment resulting in an increased budget size.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N358.7 billion, which was passed by the state House of Assembly with an adjustment amounting to N18.1 billion. This adjustment has resulted in an increase in the budget size, with the revised capital expenditure now standing at over N208.4 billion, while the revised recurrent expenditure is N150.4 billion.

 

The revised appropriation bill was presented by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, to the governor at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri on Wednesday. During the event, Governor Zulum urged heads of agencies and members of the state executive council to strictly comply with the provisions of the appropriation bill when presenting their memos for approval.

 

Governor Zulum also lauded the leadership and members of the state House of Assembly for approving the budget. "We have to commend the leadership of the House of Assembly; we also have to commend the maturity of the House," Zulum said. He expressed optimism about the potential impact of the appropriation bill, highlighting that with capital expenditure standing at N208.7 billion, it is intended to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

 

Earlier, the Speaker commended the governor for the quality projects he has executed across the state in the last five years. The speaker noted that the upward review of the appropriation bill was aimed at capturing areas of critical significance to the lives of the people. He was accompanied by his deputy, Abdullahi Askira, and other principal officers of the House.
