NNPC Ltd. has announced plans to supply four crude oil cargoes, totaling four million barrels, to the $20 billion Dangote refinery as part of its February programme. With six million barrels already delivered to the plant, the additional four cargoes are anticipated to bring the total supply to about one billion barrels of crude. This increased supply is crucial for the refinery's upcoming operational test runs, as reported by Reuters.

The Dangote refinery, once operational, is expected to significantly impact Nigeria's fuel landscape, potentially making the country self-sufficient and capable of exporting fuel to neighboring West African nations. The refinery has already received one million barrels of Nigeria's Agbami crude, with NNPC supplying the plant with four cargoes, each containing 650,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Edwin Devakumar, Dangote's group executive director for strategy, portfolio development, and capital projects, emphasized that the company did not request cargoes from NNPC for January, expressing concerns about inventory buildup and costs. The refinery is aiming to commence operations for 8-10 days before lining up additional cargoes. Additionally, the refinery is exploring crude supplies from other countries.

The refinery has nominated four NNPC cargoes for February, and NNPC is keen on waiting for the plant's test runs before sending more oil. The initial processing capacity is projected to reach 350,000 bpd, with plans to ramp up to full capacity by the year's end, according to Dangote. Once the six million barrels are fully delivered, the refinery will initiate the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) before progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Situated in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, Nigeria, the Dangote Oil Refinery is a massive 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) integrated refinery project under construction. It is anticipated to become Africa's largest oil refinery and the world's largest single-train facility.
