NFSC PRESIDENT URGES PATIENCE AND SUPPORT FOR SUPER EAGLES AHEAD OF AFCON 2024

NFSC President Sam Ikpea has urged Nigerians to avoid rushing to judgment about the Super Eagles' capabilities based on their recent friendly match against the Syli National of Guinea.

On Tuesday, the president of Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), Sam Ikpea, urged Nigerians to refrain from hastily judging the Super Eagles based on their recent friendly match against the Syli National of Guinea. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ikpea emphasized the need for a balanced perspective when evaluating the team's preparations for the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles, three-time AFCON champions, are set to make their 21st appearance at the prestigious tournament hosted by Cote D’Ivoire. Ahead of the competition, the team spent a week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for preparations and engaged in a friendly match against the Syli National of Guinea, which resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Super Eagles.

Despite criticism from pundits following the defeat against another AFCON-bound team, Ikpea cautioned against prematurely dismissing the team's potential. He stressed that a friendly match should not be equated to the competitive nature of the AFCON, as its primary purpose is to fine-tune the team's performance and address various factors.

Ikpea expressed confidence in the Super Eagles' readiness for AFCON 2024, highlighting that the friendly match against Guinea should not serve as the sole basis for evaluating the team. He acknowledged the players' cautious approach to avoid injuries and emphasized that the true test of their capabilities would unfold during the tournament.

Assuring that the Super Eagles possess quality and determination, Ikpea anticipated that they would defy skeptics' expectations. He encouraged unwavering support for the team, emphasizing that the outcome of the friendly match should not overshadow the collective backing they deserve.

Ikpea conveyed optimism about the Super Eagles' prospects in the upcoming competition, asserting that they would surprise the global and African football community when AFCON commences on January 13. Additionally, he disclosed the team's plans to travel to the host country on January 16, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to rallying behind the Eagles.
