The Director-General of the Federal Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the death of two victims and 35 injured in collapsed building in GARKI 2, Abuja.

A building collapse in the Garki 2 Area of the FCT resulted in the tragic loss of two lives and injuries to 35 others. The incident occurred around 11 pm on a Wednesday night. The Director-General of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Abbas Idriss, confirmed the casualties.

Following the collapse, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike visited the site and instructed the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, to ensure swift payment of the victims' bills. The acting Secretary of the Health and Human Services Secretariat, Malam Noel Haruna, led government officials to hospitals where victims were being treated, including the Asokoro District Hospital, to ensure compliance with the Minister's directives.

During the visit to hospitals, Malam Noel Haruna stated that out of the 35 victims, four were still undergoing treatment, 31 had been treated and discharged, and sadly, two had passed away. The victims were instructed to compile their bills and submit them through the FCT Emergency Management Agency to the Health Secretariat for further processing.

The visit revealed the excellent quality of services offered to the victims, as noted by the victims themselves. At the Asokoro District Hospital, seven out of eight patients had been discharged, and one patient, Moddib Abdusalami, expressed gratitude for the government's prompt response and support in covering medical bills.

The government officials also visited CedarCrest, Apo, and Garki General Hospitals, where only one patient remained in each location. One victim, Charity Amadi, shared the hardships her family faced after losing their belongings in the collapse. She thanked the government for aiding with hospital bills, especially as she was pregnant and needed medical attention to ensure her well-being and that of her unborn baby.
