Renowned Political Economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, expressed his views on the Nigerian legislators and the state of the country during a conversation with journalists after visiting the family of the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’abba in Kano. Utomi highlighted that the late Ghali Na’abba symbolized a period in which the country had an independent legislature, contrasting it with the current assembly.

 

He conveyed his purpose for visiting Kano, stating that he aimed to convey the nation's appreciation for the late Ghali Na’abba's service and to offer condolences to his family. Utomi emphasized that Nigeria had lost a significant figure, but the legacy left behind could be utilized to shape a new Nigeria.

 

Utomi criticized the present legislators, describing them as rubber stamps who are passively observing the country's aimless drift without providing viable alternatives. He praised the late Ghali Na’abba for his role in ensuring that government policies were aligned with serving the people, contrasting it with the current state of the legislature.

 

Utomi expressed his desire to uplift the spirit of the late Ghali Na’abba and make it a focal point for rebuilding Nigeria for the benefit of all citizens. He concluded by affirming that Nigeria deserves an effective and functional government, and he expressed solidarity with the aim of rebuilding the nation with the spirit of Ghali Na’abba.
