ARRESTS MADE IN JIGAWA STATE FOR ALLEGED THEFT OF ANIMALS AND PROPERTY

The Police Command in Jigawa has reported the arrest of 11 individuals, one of whom is a citizen of Niger, for their alleged involvement in the theft of animals, cars, motorcycles, and other items across three local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the arrests to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.

 

According to Shiisu, the suspects were apprehended in separate operations conducted between December 22 and December 29, 2023, in Babura, Kiyawa, and Suletankarkar LGAs. One of the suspects, identified as Abdulhadi Saidu, 25, a resident of Gujungu town, was found in possession of two cows suspected to be stolen along Kiyawa-Balago road in Kiyawa. When questioned, Saidu could not provide a satisfactory account of the cows.

 

Another suspect, Ibrahim Rabiu, 22, and a resident of Bakin Kasuwa in Kiyawa, was arrested in possession of 15 pieces of roofing zinc. Upon interrogation, Rabiu confessed to stealing the zinc from a local residence. Additionally, two other suspects, Sagiru Ibrahim, 27, of Makale Insharuwa village, and Zayyanu Umar, 27, of Dugujabe village in Babura town, were apprehended in Babura LGA for the alleged theft of a motorcycle. The suspects admitted to criminally conspiring and stealing the motorcycle.

 

Furthermore, six individuals were arrested in Kazaure LGA for their alleged involvement in the theft of two sheep, goats, and a generator. Among the suspects is Ibrahim Haruna, 25, from Tinkim village in Niger Republic, who has confessed to the crime. The cases are currently under investigation, and the suspects will be charged in court once the investigations are concluded.
