NASARAWA STATE ELECTORAL COMMISSION UNVEILS GUIDELINES FOR 2024 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has announced the guidelines for the forthcoming local government election scheduled for August 31st, 2024.

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has unveiled the guidelines for the upcoming local government election scheduled for August 31st, 2024. Ayuba Wandai Usman, the commission's chairman, made this announcement following a review meeting with members of the inter-party advisory council led by its chairman, Hon. Cletus Ogah.

Ayuba emphasized that the released guidelines would regulate the conduct of the 2024 local government election, serving as the framework for the involvement of political parties and the overall election process. He declared that these guidelines would govern all political parties in their activities leading up to the elections.

While confirming that the date for the local government elections remains unchanged, Ayuba explained that the commission had deemed it necessary to adjust the election timeline to ensure a free, fair, and credible election. This adjustment involved revising the timeline and introducing new schedules to facilitate the smooth conduct of the poll.

Ayuba further detailed the revised timeline, stating that the conduct of party primary elections and resolutions arising from the primaries would now take place between January 3rd and February 24th, 2024, with the last day for political parties to submit their list of candidates being February 27th.

He also outlined the schedule for the collection and submission of nomination forms, the publication of final lists of nominated candidates, and the commencement of the campaign period. Ayuba reiterated that the local government elections would be held on August 31st as originally planned and commended the cooperative relationship between members of IPAC and NASIEC.

In response, Hon. Cletus Ogah, the chairman of IPAC in Nasarawa, praised NASIEC for its preparedness to conduct the local government election and welcomed the adjustment of the election timeline, noting that it is favorable to political parties.
