PLATEAU STATE COMMUNITY LEADERS AND GOVERNMENT CALL FOR INCREASED SECURITY DEPLOYMENT

In Plateau State, community leaders and the government have united in a fervent appeal to the Federal Government for increased security measures following a series of devastating attacks by gunmen.

Community leaders in Plateau State, represented by the Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives and Community Peace Observers in Bokkos LGA, have made an urgent appeal to the Federal Government. They are requesting the deployment of additional troops to the troubled Local Government Areas in the state to bolster security measures. This plea comes in the wake of attacks by gunmen in several communities on Christmas Eve, resulting in the tragic loss of over 150 lives and the destruction of properties worth millions of naira. Furthermore, the attacks have led to the displacement of over 10,000 individuals who are currently seeking refuge in various locations.

Nanle Gujor, the Secretary General of Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives, emphasized the critical nature of this appeal. He stressed that the increased security presence is not only essential to prevent a recurrence of such devastating incidents but also to provide adequate protection, enabling the displaced persons to safely return to their ancestral homes. Gujor expressed dissatisfaction with the current security situation, citing the inadequacy of the deployed security forces in the affected communities.

Similarly, Kefas Mallai, the Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos LGA, echoed the call for additional security deployment. He highlighted the discrepancy between the promises made by security chiefs and the actual fulfillment of these promises. Mallai emphasized the plight of the displaced persons who are unable to return to their communities due to the lack of sufficient security presence. He urged the government to heed the people's cry and address the security challenges decisively.

The Plateau State Government has also joined in the call for increased security presence. Musa Ashoms, the state Commissioner for Information, reiterated the government's persistent appeal for the deployment of more troops and security agents to the state. He affirmed the government's unwavering commitment to addressing the security challenges until they become a thing of the past.
