Reigning African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, made a surprise appearance at a church in Lagos for a crossover service on New Year's Eve. The Napoli forward, who had been released by his Italian club for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, was warmly welcomed by the congregation as he arrived for the service, eliciting cheers and delight.

A video of the event, which quickly went viral online, captured Osimhen walking to the pulpit amidst enthusiastic whoops and applause from the gathered worshippers. The former Lille striker then shared a hug with the cleric before being handed the microphone, visibly moved by the warm reception.

In a similar vein, Afrobeats sensation Rema and American singer Justine Skye were also seen attending a church crossover service in Lagos on the same night, December 31, 2023, to usher in the New Year with prayer and reflection. Additionally, popular musician Davido and a few friends were spotted at Harvesters Church in Lagos for the crossover service, joining many others in marking the transition to the new year in a spiritual setting.
