PRESIDENT TINUBU'S 2024 AGENDA: PRIORITIZING FOOD SECURITY, ECONOMIC STABILITY, AND BUSINESS GROWTH IN NIGERIA

President Bola Tinubu's New Year address to Nigerians in 2024 outlined significant commitments aimed at addressing pressing issues in the country.

In his New Year address to Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu pledged to enhance food security in the country in 2024. He assured that the government would cultivate approximately 500,000 hectares of farmland to address the issue of hunger. This commitment comes in the wake of concerns over high food and general inflation rates in Nigeria. The food inflation rate was reported at 31.52% in October 2023, up from 23.72% in October 2022, while the headline inflation rate stood at around 28% in 2023.

Tinubu emphasized the need to ensure a consistent food supply, security, and affordability. He outlined plans to cultivate various staple crops such as maize, rice, wheat, and millet across the country. The government has already initiated the implementation of a food security program in Jigawa State, launching dry season farming on 120,000 hectares of land as part of the National Wheat Development Programme.

Furthermore, the President expressed a commitment to improving the business environment in Nigeria, aiming to eliminate obstacles to profitable business operations. This comes in response to the departure of several multinational companies from Nigeria due to challenges such as the power crisis and foreign exchange rate unpredictability. Tinubu vowed to address these issues and make Nigeria an attractive destination for both local and foreign investments.

In addition to these initiatives, the government promised to introduce new national wages for hardworking employees in the country, with the goal of alleviating the hardships experienced by citizens. Tinubu emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring that every Nigerian feels the impact of their administration, particularly focusing on the economic well-being of the less privileged and the working population.
