The Defence Headquarters has refuted the authenticity of a video circulating on social media that purportedly shows soldiers mistreating women under the title "Operation Rainbow in Plateau State." Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, labeled the video as misleading in a statement released on Saturday.

Gusau clarified that the video in question actually originated from a 2021 incident in Sambisa Forest, involving the spouses of Boko Haram members during the capture of their strongholds. He emphasized that the video did not originate from Plateau, contrary to the claims being made.

The Defence Headquarters stressed that the soldiers involved in the incident depicted in the video were promptly sanctioned and dealt with by the military authority at the time it occurred due to their unprofessional conduct. The dissemination of this old video, with a misleading location tag, was cautioned against, as it was deemed to be causing unnecessary alarm and had the potential to worsen the security situation in Plateau.

Brig.-Gen. Gusau highlighted the armed forces' active engagement in aggressive operations and their dedication to bringing the perpetrators of recent dastardly acts to justice. He reiterated the commitment of the Defence Headquarters to promoting peace and stability in Plateau, urging stakeholders and the public to support these efforts by refraining from spreading misinformation that could undermine the collective goal of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the residents.
