GOVERNOR OF PLATEAU STATE RAISES CONCERNS OVER PROLONGED OCCUPATION OF SCHOOLS BY TERRORISTS

It appears that Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has revealed the prolonged occupation of schools by terrorists in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, as well as the recent attacks on communities in the state.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State revealed in an interview on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily that terrorists have been occupying schools in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of the state for five years. He expressed disappointment over the lack of political will by the Federal Government to dislodge the terrorists on the Plateau. The governor also highlighted the escalation of the crisis due to the absence of arrests made by security agents.

Mutfwang described the Christmas Eve simultaneous attacks by assailants on over 15 communities in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of the state as unfortunate. These attacks have resulted in over 115 deaths, numerous injuries, and the torching of hundreds of houses. The governor emphasized the urgent need to halt the ongoing carnage and urged security agents to adopt a proactive strategy rather than a reactionary one.

He further stated that schools in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government have been occupied by terrorists for several years, leading to the displacement of at least 64 communities and the seizure of their lands. Mutfwang expressed his intention to approach President Bola Tinubu to issue clear instructions to security agents to protect the people on the Plateau against land-grabbing attackers.

The governor stressed the importance of resorting to constitutional means in dealing with land acquisition issues and warned against the use of violence. He expressed concerns that the lack of arrests or prosecutions in connection with the attacks has led to a perception that the attackers are being protected, contributing to the ongoing crisis. Mutfwang also highlighted the abandonment of primary healthcare centers and the relocation of children from the occupied schools due to the prolonged presence of terrorists in the area.
