LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT TAKES TOUGH STANCE ON SAFETY AT FUN FACILITIES

The Lagos State Government has taken a firm stance on enforcing safety regulations at fun-seeking facilities, vowing to shut down any establishment found violating the state's safety rules. Gbenga Omotoso, the state Commissioner for Information, emphasized that safety is the responsibility of everyone, and facilities found in breach of regulations set by the safety commission will face closure. This declaration comes in the wake of an incident involving Masidat Kassim at the newly-opened Giwa Gardens Waterpark in Lagos, where she sustained injuries.

Masidat Kassim recounted her experience at Giwa Gardens on her Instagram page, expressing her disappointment with the safety measures at the water park and cautioning the public about the potential dangers. She called on the Lagos State Government to conduct a thorough quality control check at the gardens, emphasizing that her intention was to alert others to the hazards at the water park.

In response to Kassim's post, the owner of Giwa Gardens, Keji Giwa, apologized for her experience and assured her of a free premium ticket with food and drinks included on her next visit. The Lagos State Safety Commission, while responding to the incident, noted that it was also being investigated. Omotoso confirmed that the water park had been shut down, but added that it would not be a permanent closure. He stated that the establishment would be given safety conditions to meet, and once these conditions are met, the park would be allowed to reopen. Additionally, the safety commission has requested the individuals involved to personally apologize to Kassim, demonstrating the seriousness with which the government is addressing the issue.
