The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has initiated the demolition of a five-floor structure situated at 7, BreadFruit Street on Lagos Island due to its violation of construction regulations. Mr. Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of LASBCA, shared this information in a statement released in Lagos on Monday.

The statement was issued by LASBCA's Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Adetayo Akitoye-Asagba. Oki stated that the demolition is part of a broader strategy to address the issue of illegal construction, mitigate the occurrence of building collapses, and prevent potential hazards.

He pointed out that the building's owner failed to secure any approval from the agency, which goes against the legal requirements for construction projects in any part of the state. Additionally, Oki mentioned that repeated warnings and notices issued to the developer to cease construction were disregarded.

Based on available records, Oki revealed that the developer's application for a development permit was rejected due to the fact that the area falls under government land oversight by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency.

Oki emphasized that LASBCA is unwavering in its commitment to uphold building construction standards and protocols, aiming to ensure the safety of residents' lives and properties. He assured the residents of Lagos that the agency is dedicated to certifying all new buildings across the state as suitable for habitation.

In an appeal to property owners and developers, Oki urged them to consistently adhere to the state's building codes when embarking on construction projects.
