BREAKING NEWS: LAWMAKER OLUBUNMI TINJI-OJO RESIGNS AS A HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE MEMBER

The house of representatives member representing Akoko Northeast and Northwest Federal Constituency of Ondo state has resigned from the 10th National Assembly. He scheduled for swearing-in as a minister designate.

Lawmaker Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, representing Akoko Northeast and Northwest federal constituency of Ondo, has resigned from the 10th National Assembly. This decision came just hours before his scheduled swearing-in ceremony as a minister-designate. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had nominated and appointed him as a minister.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Tunji-Ojo formally resigned from his current position. He explained that his ministerial appointment prompted his decision, stating, "Our dear country is in dire need of collaborative and concerted efforts that would engender the much-needed advancement to greater heights, and I have been appointed to contribute my quota to achieve that enviable objective as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

Tunji-Ojo had initially been elected to the House of Representatives in 2019. During his time in the Ninth National Assembly, he served as the Chair of the Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He was reelected in 2023.

Interestingly, Tunji-Ojo, who was listed as the minister of the newly established Marine and Blue Economy, was reassigned on Sunday night to the position of interior minister. This reshuffle was part of a minor cabinet reorganization by President Bola Tinubu. Gboyega Oyetola, a former Governor of Osun State, replaced him as the chair of the Marine and Blue Economy.
