REV. FR. ANDREW OBINYAN DECLARES INTENTION TO RUN FOR EDO STATE GOVERNORSHIP

Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan of St. Francis Catholic Church, Benin City, has recently declared his intention to run for the governorship election in Edo State.

In Edo State, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan of St. Francis Catholic Church, Benin City, has announced his intention to run for the governorship election. Although he did not specify the political party he would represent, he stated that he had been urged by numerous Edo people and Nigerians from various political affiliations to enter the race. He made this declaration during a visit to the secretariat of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin City.

Fr. Obinyan emphasized that after extensive consultations, he had decided to heed the calls and was prepared to serve the people of Edo State. He expressed his readiness to serve, citing his vocation as a priest, which he believes has equipped him to serve others rather than seek personal gain.

Sir Jude Aigbona, who leads the Rev. Fr. Obinyan Movement, advocated for the priest's candidacy, asserting that Edo State should consider giving him the opportunity to govern. Aigbona highlighted Fr. Obinyan's integrity and called on the state's youth to rally behind the priest's bid for governorship, envisioning a transformative era under his leadership.

Basil Ogwu, another member of the movement, emphasized that their support for Fr. Obinyan transcends party lines and is based on his credibility and suitability for the role. He expressed a desire for a leader with a religious background to lead the state, believing that it could bring about positive change and serve as an example for other states to follow.
