BIDDING PROCESS FOR 2027 WOMEN’S ’s WORLD CUP CLOSES WITH THREE CONTENDERS

FIFA has concluded the bidding process for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, with three bids submitted from different confederations. Notably, joint bids from Europe and North America, as well as a sole bid from Brazil, are in contention.

FIFA has confirmed that the bidding process for hosting the Women’s World Cup in 2027 has closed, with three bids submitted from across three confederations. One joint bid comes from Europe, comprising Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, while another joint bid was submitted by Mexico and the United States just before the deadline. Brazil is the only country to have submitted a sole bid for hosting the tournament.

Following the closure of the bidding process, FIFA announced that a thorough evaluation, including on-site inspection visits, will commence in February 2024. The findings of this evaluation will be published in a bid evaluation report in May 2024. The final decision on the host country for the 2027 Women’s World Cup will be made through an open vote at the next FIFA Congress in Bangkok on May 17, 2024.

South Africa had initially planned to bid but withdrew from the process last month, with their federation opting to focus on presenting a well-prepared bid for the 2031 tournament. The United States has previously hosted the Women’s World Cup on its own in 1999 and 2003, while Germany hosted the event in 2011. The most recent Women’s World Cup was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in July and August of this year, culminating in Spain's victory over England in the final.
