The Federal Government has recently entered into a memorandum of understanding (M.O.U.) for the establishment of a 1 Gigawatt (GW) Solar PV Manufacturing plant in Nigeria. This initiative is part of the government's commitment to providing reliable energy to its people. The agreement was signed by the Infrastructure Corporation (Infracorp), Solarge BV of the Netherlands, and the African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank during the 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Lazarus Angbaso, the Chief Executive Officer of Infracorp, stated that the project aims to revolutionize Nigeria's energy sector and elevate the economy to $1 trillion through sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure. He emphasized that the project focuses on local manufacturing, green manufacturing, renewable energy, equipment manufacturing, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

At the summit, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted the dire state of the current power situation in the country, citing insufficient transmission infrastructure, limited distribution capacity, and various challenges hindering generation. He stressed the importance of adequate energy supply for unlocking the country's full potential and assured the international community of the government's dedication to fulfilling its promises. Adelabu acknowledged the stress on the national grid, which continues to cause power outages affecting the daily lives of citizens, including homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses of various scales.

Furthermore, Adelabu emphasized that renewable energy is no longer just a future aspiration but a present necessity.
