Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the former President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and immediate past governor of Edo State, called on the organized labor to ensure that all workers in Nigeria receive the N35,000 wage award before Christmas, in response to the petrol subsidy removal. He emphasized that this payment must be made to both public and private sector workers, and warned that employers who fail to do so should not expect a peaceful Christmas celebration.

Speaking at the 8th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Non-Academics Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in Abuja, Oshiomhole expressed concern about the implementation of the N35,000 wage award. He highlighted the need for transparency in the decision-making process and stressed that the demand for the wage increase should apply to all workers, regardless of their employment sector.

Oshiomhole urged the National Working Committee and National Executive Council of the NLC, of which NASU is a prominent member, to address the issue of selective application of the wage increase. He emphasized that the N35,000 wage award should be implemented nationwide, affecting all workers in Nigeria, and warned that failure to do so could lead to nationwide strikes.

President of NASU, Dr. Makolo Hassan, also expressed appreciation for the approval of the three months' wage award of N35,000 to federal employees as an interim measure to alleviate the hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal. He called on the remaining state governments to urgently announce and implement similar wage awards for their employees, considering that all state government workers are equally affected by the subsidy removal.
