OKOROCHA ROCHAS INDICTED IN IMO STATE

The committee established and assigned by Imo Street Government to over the recovery of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education land has indicted the former governor Rochas Okorocha and recommend that Shell Camp land be recovered.

The Committee established by the Imo State Government to oversee the recovery of land belonging to Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE) has issued an indictment against former governor Rochas Okorocha. The committee's report, submitted to Governor Hope Uzodimma, highlighted Okorocha's alleged use of brute force to dispossess the college of its land.

The committee's recommendations include the recovery of the Shell Camp land from Okorocha and his associates within a six-month timeframe, to subsequently hand it back to AIFCE. The report, signed by Chairman Prof. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe and Secretary B.F. Anyanwu, expressed regret over Okorocha's alleged use of military and hoodlums to seize the land, which was later allocated or sold to his close associates.

The report revealed that several individuals benefited from this land acquisition, including Okorocha's in-laws Dr. Uzoma Anwuka and Kingsley Uju, as well as former speaker Chief Acho Ihim, Charles Orie, Prince Charles Amadi, and Ugochukwu Hillary. The committee also noted that Okorocha ordered the demolition of 101 buildings owned by college staff members, subsequently confiscating their property.

The committee urged the Imo State Executive Council to facilitate the recovery of AIFCE's lands that are currently in the possession of individuals and institutions. It additionally proposed that the state government oversee the recovery process within six months and then issue a certificate of occupancy to the college.

The recommendations further included AIFCE's payment of agreed compensation to the original landowners, the Orji indigenes. The committee also suggested that the Army vacate the shanties they erected on the land and relocate to Obinze.

Governor Uzodimma expressed gratitude to the committee for its comprehensive work and assured that the state government would take appropriate actions in accordance with due process to implement the recommended measures.
