The police in Imo State have reported the killing of the Second in Command of the IPOB Eastern Security Network during a fierce gun battle.

The police in Imo State have reported the killing of the Second in Command of the IPOB Eastern Security Network during a fierce gun battle. According to a statement released by the state's Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the operation was carried out based on confessions made by suspected IPOB/ESN members allegedly involved in the killing of the DPO of Ahiazu Mbaise and other criminal activities in the Mbaise axis.

 

The police disclosed that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping squad, led by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, stormed the hideout of the IPOB/ESN Syndicate led by Ebube Virus and Ishaka at Umuogu Amuzu in Aboh-Mbaise LGA of Imo State. During the operation, the Second in Command to Ebube Virus, who was on the Command’s wanted list due to their criminal activities in the Mbaise axis, was neutralized in a fierce gunfight. Other members of the gang reportedly fled with bullet injuries, and ammunitions were recovered.

 

The statement further mentioned the recovery of an AK 47 rifle loaded with 19 rounds of live ammunition from the neutralized terrorist. The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command CP Aboki Danjuma, expressed appreciation for the gallant operatives' efforts and reiterated the command’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure environment in Imo state during and after the Yuletide seasons. The operation is ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
