ONDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY WITHDRAWS APPEAL AGAINST DEPUTY GOVERNOR, AGREES ON PALLIATIVES AND WAGE ALLOWANCE

The Ondo State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Mr. Olamide Oladiji, has withdrawn an appeal lodged against the state's Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who faced impeachment threats over alleged acts of gross misconduct

The Ondo State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Mr. Olamide Oladiji, has withdrawn an appeal lodged against the state's Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who faced impeachment threats over alleged acts of gross misconduct. The lawmakers, represented by a team of lawyers led by Dr. Remi Peter, informed the appellate court of their decision to terminate further proceedings in the matter, citing "the interest of peace" as the reason for their withdrawal.

The Deputy Governor's lawyer, Mr. A.A. Adewusi, confirmed that he was served with all the necessary processes regarding the withdrawal of the appeal and did not oppose the decision. Similarly, the other Respondents in the matter, including the Department of State Services (DSS), represented by Mr. I. Awo, expressed no opposition to the peace moves and also withdrew the appeal. Consequently, a three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, dismissed the appeal following its withdrawal.

The lawmakers had initially approached the appellate court to challenge an interim injunction issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which restrained them from impeaching the deputy governor for alleged misconduct. The trial Judge, Emeka Nwite, was also asked to vacate the order he made against them on September 26.

In a separate development, the Deputy Governor, Mr. Aiyedatiwa, presided over the state Executive Council meeting three months after the political logjam in the state. The Information and Orientation Commissioner, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, stated that they have embraced peace and abided by the resolutions reached with President Bola Tinubu. She denied allegations of Governor Akeredolu's signature being forged and clarified that the Governor still attends to files. The meeting also addressed the distribution of palliatives to the people of the state and the agreement reached with the labor, including the payment of a N35,000 wage allowance starting from this month.
