ARRESTS MADE IN OGUN STATE: CRACKDOWN ON SUSPECTED CULTISTS

According to a police source in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Metro, the suspects were apprehended on Friday and Saturday as they were allegedly planning to unleash terror on the residents of the communities.

 

Residents of the Ntanbo Ijoko area of the state had reportedly received intelligence suggesting a potential attack by suspected cultists on Saturday, causing palpable fear in the community. In response to this, the police in the division and members of the Communities, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps initiated patrols in the area based on the intelligence provided by some community members.

 

During the joint patrol, a suspect named Richard Edet, residing in the Shasha area of Lagos State, was arrested, while others managed to escape into the bush. Additionally, the police had received prior intelligence about a planned meeting of secret confraternity members at an undisclosed location within the area on Friday, leading to the arrest of four suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity through combing and patrolling operations.

 

The arrested individuals, identified as Ahmed Oguntoyinbo, Sikiru Komolafe, and Abiola Alashebi, were apprehended in Sagamu on Friday. They confessed to the crime and are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after a preliminary investigation. In a separate raid in the Sakura area of Sagamu, a suspected cultist, 25-year-old Olatunji Azeez, was arrested and confessed to being a member of the Alora Confraternity. He is set to be transferred to the anti-tactical team for further investigation.

 

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the multiple raids and arrests, emphasizing that all the suspects would be prosecuted after the investigation. She assured that routine raids would continue to ensure the safety of all communities in Ogun State, stating that the police, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, would not tolerate any community in the state being a safe haven for cintroduction
