SOGON HONORS DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN WOMEN'S HEALTH RESEARCH

Nigerian Gynaecologists and Obstetricians recently gathered in Kano for the 57th Annual General Meeting of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON).

Last Wednesday, Nigerian Gynaecologists and Obstetricians convened in Kano for the 57th Annual General Meeting of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON). The meeting aimed to address critical issues concerning maternal and child health in the country. During the event, Professor Oliver Ezechi, the Director of Research at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), was honored with the Award of Excellence in Research.

 

At the award ceremony in Kano State, Professor Innocent A. Ujah, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences (FUHSO), presented the award to Professor Ezechi. The President of SOGON, Dr. Habib Sadauki, highlighted the significance of the event's theme, "The Tragedy of Maternal Deaths in Nigeria: Our Collective Responsibility," and the sub-theme, "Elimination of Cervical Cancer: The Role of HPV Vaccination." Dr. Sadauki emphasized the conference as an exceptional opportunity for members to unite and advance the field of Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

 

Dr. Sadauki commended the dedication of SOGON members to improving women's health and ensuring comprehensive healthcare. He urged them to carry forward their shared mission beyond the conference, impacting medical institutions, patient lives, and the broader healthcare landscape of the nation.

 

In response to receiving the award, Professor Ezechi expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the honor bestowed upon him by his colleagues and mentors. He pledged to continue serving humanity through research, emphasizing the significance of the award as a recognition of distinguished service in women's health research, both nationally and internationally.
