FINANCIAL STRUGGLES OF NOLLYWOOD ACTORS: PATIENCE OZOKWOR'S INSIGHTS

Nollywood veteran actress, Patience Ozokwor, has recently brought attention to the financial struggles faced by actors in the industry, shedding light on why some of her colleagues seek public assistance when dealing with illnesses.

Nollywood veteran actress, Patience Ozokwor, recently shed light on why some of her colleagues turn to the public for financial assistance when dealing with illnesses. According to her, despite being well-paid, actors often struggle to save enough money due to the expensive lifestyles demanded by their careers. This financial strain makes it challenging for them to cover their medical expenses without seeking external help.

Ozokwor also highlighted the intense financial pressure actors face from family members and acquaintances who assume they are extremely wealthy because of their visibility on television. She emphasized that when actors fall ill, they no longer have a source of income, as they are unable to work and earn money while recuperating. This loss of income, coupled with the depletion of any savings, leads them to seek public assistance to meet their medical needs.

In addition, she pointed out that the nature of their profession often compels actors to be heavy spenders, as they are expected to maintain a certain image and appearance. The need to constantly invest in their outward presentation, including expensive clothing and accessories, further contributes to their financial challenges. Ozokwor also mentioned that the public perception of actors as wealthy individuals due to their on-screen presence leads to frequent requests for financial aid from various quarters.

These insights were shared by Ozokwor in a recent interview, a clip of which was posted on TikTok by KWS Nigeria. In the interview, she expressed the difficulties faced by actors when dealing with illnesses and the financial burdens that accompany their profession.
