NIGERIA POLICE FORCE RECRUITMENT: OVER 500,000 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED FOR CONSTABLE CADRE

The Police Service Commission has reported a substantial response to the recruitment drive for the Constable Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force, with over 547,000 applications received within a five-week period.

The Police Service Commission announced that the recruitment portal for the Constable Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force has received a total of 547,774 applications. The portal, which was opened on October 15, 2023, has garnered a significant number of applications within the five-week period, meeting the six-week mandatory requirement for such exercises set by the Federal Character Commission.

Out of the total applicants, 358,900 were deemed successful and have qualified for the next stage of the recruitment process. This next stage involves physical assessments, credential verification, medical checks, and rigorous background screenings of the applicants. However, 84,606 applicants were rejected for being over the age limit, as applicants are expected to be between 18 and 25 years old.

The statement by the Commission also revealed the distribution of applicants across various states. Kaduna State maintained its lead with the highest number of applicants at 40,272, while Anambra remained at the bottom with 1,664 applicants. Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the PSC, expressed satisfaction with the number of applications received, noting the significant interest shown by Nigerian youths in pursuing a career in the Nigeria Police.

Dr. Arase also urged the youths of the South-East to reconsider their indifference to police work, emphasizing that aligning with anti-government criminal groups would not lead to positive outcomes. He stressed the importance of focusing on the region's future and the detrimental impact of terrorism on community development. Additionally, he assured that the Commission would ensure that the recruitment process is conducted with strict adherence to defined criteria, emphasizing the prevalence of merit and justice throughout the processes.
