SGF SENATOR GEORGE AKUME AND GOVERNOR HYACINTH ALIA OF BENUE STATE DISPEL RUMORS, EMPHASIZE UNITY AND PROGRESS

In a recent gathering of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Makurdi, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, addressed rumors of a rift between himself and Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, has made it clear that he does not have any issues with Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state, despite rumors suggesting otherwise. These rumors have been circulating among supporters of both the Governor and the SGF in Benue state, alleging a power struggle between the two.

 

Speaking to stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Makurdi, the SGF, represented by elder statesman Simon Shango, emphasized that there is no dispute between him and the Governor. He cautioned against the involvement of what he described as "political jobbers" who try to create issues between him and the Governor, stating that he is at peace with the Governor and they are not quarreling. He also reassured the party that there is no misunderstanding between him and the Governor.

 

The SGF further stressed the party's determination to safeguard its mandate and commended the Governor for his leadership since taking office in May. He acknowledged that while there may be challenges, the Governor is addressing them effectively. He also acknowledged the Governor's background as a Priest and the complexities of the political landscape, expressing his commitment to supporting the Governor in advancing the state.

 

Elder Shango, who also represented the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Terlumun Utsev, echoed the call for unity among the people of the state for the benefit of Benue.

 

In his address to the gathering, Governor Alia appreciated the emphasis on unity by political leaders and assured that his administration would work towards fostering unity in the state to restore its former glory. He highlighted various ongoing initiatives, such as the renovation of the State Assembly complex, the progress on 16 Makurdi township roads, and the illumination of the streets in the state capital. Additionally, he mentioned achievements such as the timely supply of subsidized fertilizers and the restoration of relative peace in the state, while seeking sustained support for his administration to deliver tangible benefits of democracy to the people.
