CHINESE GOVERNMENT'S COMMITMENT TO ALLEVIATING POVERTY IN AFRICA AND STRENGTHENING TIES WITH NIGERIA

The Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, has reaffirmed the Chinese government's commitment to collaborating with African nations to address poverty on the continent without creating a debt crisis. This was said during the 18th China-African lecture at the University of Lagos

The Chinese government has emphasized its commitment to partnering with African countries to alleviate poverty on the continent, assuring that it will not contribute to a debt crisis for African nations. This announcement was made by the Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, during the 18th China-African lecture held at the University of Lagos. Yuqing stated that the collaboration between China and African countries is focused on reducing poverty levels in Africa and highlighted China's contributions within the G20 framework to delay debt repayment, emphasizing that China has played a significant role in this effort.

 

Furthermore, the Consul-General emphasized the positive and friendly relationship between the people of Nigeria and China, citing successful collaborations in various areas such as infrastructure, trade, investment, education, and culture. The theme of the lecture, "Chinese Modernisation and the Development of Africa," was intended to foster bilateral development between Nigeria and China and to provide University of Lagos students with a deeper understanding of Chinese development.

 

The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Adelaja Odukoya, commended the Chinese society for its unique approach to socialism, describing it as "Chinese essentialism." He highlighted China's remarkable transformation from a state of poverty to a global superpower, attributing this success to the socialist system. Additionally, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Akanbi Ilupeju, emphasized the meeting's purpose in facilitating the exchange of ideas across various disciplines and promoting opportunities for students to pursue academic programs in China.
