Abdulazeez Adegbola, also known as Tani Olohun, a well-known traditionalist, has publicly appealed to the entire Muslim community for forgiveness following allegations of burning the Qur’an and defaming certain Muslim figures in Kwara State.

Abdulazeez Adegbola, also known as Tani Olohun, a well-known traditionalist, has publicly appealed to the entire Muslim community for forgiveness following allegations of burning the Qur’an and defaming certain Muslim figures in Kwara State. Tani Olorun made this plea during a court appearance after being granted bail on Thursday.

Addressing the court, the Isese adherent, expressed remorse and sought forgiveness from "Alfa Labeeb," one of the applicants, and the Muslim community for his actions. He stated, "I didn’t realize that burning the Qur’an is an offense, and as soon as I was informed, I promptly removed the video of the incident from my social media handle within a minute. I implore all those prosecuting me and the Muslim community to forgive me, and I assure you that I will not repeat such actions of posting negative videos on social media."

During the court proceedings presided over by Magistrate A.S. Adam, Tani Olohun, who is facing trial for two separate cases, was granted bail in the sum of N2 million and required three sureties in the same sum. The court ruled that two of the sureties must possess landed property within the court’s jurisdiction or in Oyo State. The case was adjourned to January 9, 2024.

The complainant’s counsel, Taofeeq Olateju and Y.Y Ajibade, did not oppose the bail application presented by Tani Olohun’s counsel, Barrister Ademola Banks. The two separate cases heard on Thursday were filed by Sheikh Labeeb Lagbaji and Modrasat Muhammed led by Professor Abubakar Aliagan, alleging the burning of the Quran among other offenses.

With this recent development, Tani Olohun has been granted bail from the four different cases and three courts where he is standing trial for the alleged offenses of defamation and burning of the Qur’an in Ilorin. He was initially arraigned before Magistrate Muhammed Ibrahim for allegedly insulting Ilorin elders, a case brought against him by the Association of Proud Sons and Daughters of Ilorin (Ogo Ilorin), and later at the Upper Area Court through a direct complaint by the counsel of one Alfa Okutagidi.
