LABOUR PARTY DENIES MERGER RUMORS AND EMPHASIZES FUTURE TRANSPARENCY

The Labour Party (LP) has recently addressed circulating rumors about a potential merger with another political party, urging Nigerians to disregard such claims.

The Labour Party (LP) has issued a statement urging Nigerians to dismiss the circulating news suggesting that the party is in the process of merging with any political party. Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, conveyed this message in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.

This development comes after the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, had earlier called on opposition parties to consider merging in order to prevent Nigeria from sliding into a one-party state.

Ifoh emphasized that the reports were a distortion of facts and were sensationalized by a section of the media with the intention of causing embarrassment to the party. He clarified that in his response, he had merely highlighted the importance of every Nigerian contributing to the functionality of democracy and had expressed concerns about the current state of governance.

The National Publicity Secretary further clarified that there was no mention of a proposed merger between the Labour Party and the PDP in his response. He also mentioned that the Labour Party had recently concluded the 2023 general election and had not yet conducted a post-mortem analysis. As a result, the party's future plans had not been deliberated upon.

Ifoh assured that once these discussions take place, the party would ensure that Nigerians are duly informed about the way forward.
