Arsenal Shifts Focus to Gyökeres as Osimhen Pursuit Ends, Manchester United and Chelsea Lurk

Arsenal has abandoned its pursuit of Victor Osimhen, opting to focus on alternative targets, including Victor Gyökeres, due to the Nigerian striker's expensive salary and transfer fee demands.

Arsenal has reportedly dropped their pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, despite Napoli lowering their asking price. The Gunners had previously been linked to a big-money move for the 25-year-old, but have now shifted their focus to alternative targets.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal is now prioritizing a move for Sporting Lisbon's Victor Gyökeres. The club considers Gyökeres' potential wage packet more affordable than Osimhen's, whose new deal signed in December 2023 makes his salary too expensive. However, Arsenal would still need to spend €100m on a transfer fee to secure Gyökeres' services.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Chelsea are also linked to Osimhen, but no official bids have been made. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is actively working on selling Osimhen this summer, despite his crucial role in the team's recent successes, including their Scudetto-winning 2022/23 campaign. Manchester United has been credited with a player-plus-cash offer for Osimhen, which would see Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund leave Old Trafford for Naples.
