The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has placed Heart Chidozie Obum before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court under the jurisdiction of Justice Ramon Oshodi, on charges of forgery, stealing, and fraudulent acquisition of N72 million. Obum is accused of defrauding Peace Asonye Udochukwu in Lagos in 2023.
The EFCC claimed that Obum's actions violated Sections 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offenses Act 2006, Section 278(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, and Section 365(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
Obum's charges state that he "dishonestly defrauded Peace Asonye Udochukwu" and "dishonestly took the sum of N72,689,000 from Peace Asonye Udochukwu as payment for a certificate of sponsorship."
Obum also faces charges for stealing £31,200 from Udochukwu and obtaining the sum of N72,689,000 from her by false pretense and intent to defraud. The charges allege that these actions are in violation of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offenses Act 2006.
The EFCC is working to ensure that justice is served and to protect victims of fraud like Udochukwu. The case will continue to unfold as the court hears and examines the evidence presented.
