TRIAL OF NIGERIAN SINGER NAIRA MARLEY DELAYED AS COURT FAILS TO SIT.

The trial of Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, on charges of cybercrime has experienced a delay as the Federal Court in Lagos did not sit on Monday.

The trial of Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, on charges of cybercrime was delayed on Monday as the Federal Court in Lagos did not sit. The trial judge, Justice Nicholas Owiebo, was reportedly attending a judges' conference. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Fashola on charges related to cybercrime, which were filed on May 14, 2019.

Fashola, known for his song "Am I a Yahoo Boy?", was initially arraigned on May 20, 2019, before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, where he pleaded not guilty. He was granted bail in the amount of two million naira, with two sureties of the same sum. The trial has been ongoing since then.

On October 6, Justice Oweibo issued a warrant for the production of the defendant after he failed to appear in court. The warrant was issued following an application by the prosecution, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari. It is worth noting that Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, were previously detained by the police in Lagos in connection with the death of Nigerian artist Oladimeji Aloba, also known as "Mohbad."

During the last adjourned date on October 30, the defense counsel, Mr. Olalekan Ojo (SAN), informed the court that the defendant was still absent despite the court's order. As a result, the court adjourned the case until November 13 and 30 for the continuation of the trial.
