President Bola Tinubu has attributed the lingering insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the North West region, to inherited security compromises and historical injustices. Speaking at a security and peace summit in Katsina State, Tinubu noted that his administration has made security a top priority since taking office. He emphasized that achieving peace requires addressing historical injustices, reversing institutional frailties, and counteracting ideological mischief.

Tinubu acknowledged that the North has been plagued by cycles of clashes between herders and farmers, cattle rustling, and insurgent activities, which have disrupted the region's unity. He expressed determination to restore peace and security, ensuring that every trade, group, and community is safe. The President highlighted his administration's efforts to enhance border security, intelligence capabilities, and collaborations among security agencies.

The Chairman of the North-West Governors' Forum, Dikko Radda, emphasized the need for collective action to combat insecurity, which he described as a federal responsibility that requires state and community involvement. The UNDP representative, Elsie Gyekyeua Atafauh, praised the security and peace summit initiative, stressing that promoting development and deepening peace in the Northern region is crucial for Nigeria's progress.
