FRSC Clarifies No Plan to Abolish Patrol Points in South-East States

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a statement to address misleading reports about abolishing patrol points in four South-East states, clarifying that it is instead enhancing its operational strategies to improve road safety.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has clarified that it has no intention of abolishing patrol points in Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu states. This follows reports suggesting that the corps was planning to remove these patrol points. According to a statement by FRSC Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the reports were misleading and misquoted the Zonal Commanding Officer of Zone 9 Headquarters in Enugu, Uche Chukwurah.

Chukwurah had announced that the zone was adopting mobile patrol operations instead of static patrol points, but Ogungbemide explained that this was not equivalent to abolishing patrol points. The FRSC is instead focused on enhancing its operational strategies to improve the capacity of its personnel, including providing functional vehicles, ambulances, and motorbikes, and retraining personnel for efficient rescue services.

The aim of these efforts is to increase the mileage coverage of daily patrol activities and ensure a stronger presence across the road network, ultimately improving road safety. The FRSC also supports other security agencies through reliable processing of driver and vehicle databases. Ogungbemide emphasized that the corps has no plans to abolish patrol points in the South-East or any other region, and that the public should disregard any misleading information to the contrary.
