The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) is investigating allegations of corruption and abuse of office against former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami. The investigation comes in response to a petition filed by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre), a Nigerian non-governmental organization.

In the petition dated July 10, HEDA Resource Centre detailed various allegations against Malami. These allegations included the distribution of 30 car gifts worth over One Billion Naira to supporters, the illegal auctioning of sea vessels holding seized crude oil, ordering the stoppage of investigations into a multi-billion Naira fraud case, alleged duplicity of payment to lawyers for the recovery of stolen funds, reinstatement of a controversial figure into the Federal Civil Service, breaches of Covid-19 protocols, and interference in fraud cases.

HEDA called for a thorough investigation into these allegations to maintain the integrity of public office and uphold the rule of law. The ICPC responded to the petition, acknowledging its receipt and indicating that necessary actions are being taken on the matter. The allegations, if proven true, could have significant implications for the reputation and credibility of both the former minister and the anti-corruption agencies involved.
