France Edge Past Austria 1-0 in Euro 2024 Opener, While Slovakia Stun Belgium

France kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign with a lackluster 1-0 win over Austria, relying on an own goal to secure the victory, while Slovakia delivered a surprise 1-0 win over Belgium in a day of modest performances from top teams.

France began their Euro 2024 campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Austria, courtesy of an own goal by Maximilian Woeber. Despite dominating the match, France struggled to convert their chances into goals, with Kylian Mbappe squandering a clear opportunity in the second half. Mbappe, who was later substituted after a clash of heads left him bleeding from the nose, fired wide after bursting clear of the Austrian defense.

Austria, on the other hand, failed to pose a significant threat to France's goal, allowing Les Bleus to secure an unconvincing win in Duesseldorf. The result marks a lukewarm start to France's Euro 2024 journey, with Didier Deschamps' team facing sterner tests ahead. Meanwhile, in another match, Slovakia pulled off an upset by defeating Belgium 1-0, with Schranz scoring the decisive goal.
